What can you do today to show love?

As we continue to navigate the effects of the COVID-19 virus, both personally and as a church community, I’m reminded of the opportunity provided to us, to simply Love each other.  John writes in 1 John 3:18, “Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.”  We say “I love…” easily:  I love my wife, I love my kids, I love my work, I would love to sit down in Swiss Chalet tonight and have a 1/4 white meat chicken with a caesar salad (but I can’t, because I’m practising self-isolation).  But during this unprecedented time, we have a great opportunity to show the truth of our love, by our actions.

When others are struggling, and we might be too, with feelings of fear, isolation, loneliness and uncertainty, why not choose to display love in action?  Health care providers are doing it, community service employees are doing it, Grocery Store employees are dong it.  I even was referred to a social media group called “Caremongers”, which are popping up all over, and those who become members hear of local opportunities being posted to help people in practical ways (Pick up groceries or supplies for someone in need, job opportunities for those recently laid off, etc.). We are even trying to do our part here at King Street Community Church, by encouraging everyone to start and join online groups, text/call/message those who you know, and to be praying with and for each other, our church, our community, our country and our world.  Let’s not miss this opportunity given us to respond to those around us with love in action.

My challenge for you during this time is this: hang on to the hope that we have in a great God who is up to something great at this time even if we don’t see all that’s happening, and watch for the opportunities for you and those close to you to do something great by putting love into action for a neighbour, community member in need, church family member and a family member or friend.  What can you do today to show love?

See you online this Sunday @ 10:30am!
