Coach's Corner

Are Small Groups for Me?

Small Groups are for everyone!

Every day we participate in a variety of small groups whether we know it or not. Whenever a few people are gathered, a “small group” is in progress. It may be a small group of family members, a small group of colleagues, or a small group of hockey moms, we engage relationally on a small group level everyday. God designed us to be the kind of people who relate on an intimate level with one another. We were made for small groups!

Therefore, the question that needs to be asked is … Are we being intentional within these small groups?

Small groups are a natural part of our lives. Every day we encounter multiple opportunities to make these small groups intentional. But sometimes, rather than offering value, encouragement, and support to others we resort to superficial conversations that merely scratch the surface of people’s lives. Rather than be intentional with words and actions, we allow opportunity after opportunity to be missed and the chance for spiritual development to decrease. People need Intentional Small Groups!

At King Street we are committed to providing for intentional small groups to form and develop where people can be encouraged to take steps in becoming more like Jesus. Our small group value comes to life in a structure called “Living Room Gatherings.”

Within these Living Room Gatherings, groups are encouraged to meet around the scriptures and to take steps to practically implement the word of God into their lives. Growing in the scriptures is just one of the important components to our Living Room Gatherings. We also believe that encouragement and support should be front and center within intentional small groups. Every person faces their own battles. Every person wrestles with their own struggles. And every person needs other people who will be there to encourage and support them when the load of life gets a little bit too heavy. We believe that meeting in living rooms across Durham region is a great way to partner with others in the journey of life and faith. Living Room Gatherings offer opportunities for people to be known and cared for, loved and accepted, all within a group where people are able to experience the joy of living life with others.

Intentional Small Groups are absolutely necessary for every Christ follower. We were made to be with each other. We were made to relate on a deeper level. We were made for small groups!
