Tuesday - Our Friend Carson
Barbados is home to many warm and friendly people. We’ve had the privilege of getting to know a man named Carson over the last couple days. Carson oversees the Seedlings program in Barbados and works relationally with all 71 elementary school principals. A lot of the success of Seeds in Barbados is due to this man’s diligent work over the last 9 years.
I had the opportunity to spend an hour riding around with Carson today, discussing culture, Christianity, and a little bit of cricket. It was interesting to learn about the different areas that the church is thriving in and struggling in. As I listened to this former pastor share his heart for reaching a country that is very “Christ aware” but not very “Christ following”, I was reminded again of the need and responsibility we all have to live authentic Christ following lives; the kind of lives that encourage others to move from spectators to participants.
I’ve been impressed with the Seedlings program. The relationship with schools goes so much deeper than the 5 Canadians who put on an engaging Christ centered assembly. It’s a program filled with many people, investing many hours, to build lasting relationships with principals, teachers, and staff. And I was reminded today that through relationship is when the authentic Christ follower is most influential and effective.
The way we package the Gospel always changes and will differ from place to place. But it’s the relationships that bring credibility, trust, and long-term success
