Missions' News from around the World

Friday… Last Day of Camp

Gypsy child (more photos on Flickr)

Greetings again from our Zvolen, Slovakian Hostel.

Well, our Gypsy camp has officially finished. It was an awesome day and a really successful week! Today was particularly difficult for me as I woke up with a non-stop runny nose, an intense head ache, and an extremely sore throat. Under normal circumstances in Canada, I would have probably taken a sick day. But seeing that it was the last day for our Gypsy camp, I wanted to finish it and say farewell to the kids. I was very thankful for my team today as they stepped up in multiple areas where I would normally oversee. They did an excellent job day!!! You would be proud!!! We concluded our day at camp by giving them lots of candy, gifts, and the remaining soccer balls from King Street’s VBS. The kids were really excited and hugged us all as they left. It was one of those memorable moments for our team on this trip. One of the last comments that one of the orphanage leaders said to me through an interpreter was that this week has made her very interested in being apart of Pastor Cyril’s community. When I heard her say that, I was really pleased because for the entire week I’ve encouraged our team that one of our primary roles in Slovakia is to help build connections between people and the local church. So when this lady said this to me, I felt like we had accomplished our goal.

This evening, we ran a service for “youth.“ As I learned over lunch with Pastor Cyril, “youth” in Slovakia means people from the ages of 18 to 35. So it was fun and intimidating for our students to lead a night with people older than them. But they did an awesome job and were very mature. I know our ministry was an encouragement to this “youth” community.

Tomorrow, Pastor Cyril has planned a family and outreach day with people from his church. We are meeting at at local park and for a good chunk we will be playing sports with children and have fellowship with people from his church and friends of the community. I’m sure it will be a great day.

Please keep praying for us as we are preparing for a day of ministry on Sunday in Zvolen and Lucenec.

Love and peace,

Pastor Josh & Team

Missions Philosophy

Our philosophy of missions here at King Street Church is based on the biblical model found in Acts 1:8. “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
